He came for one week. Then everything changed.
Jean Jacques Diouf was already leading an electrical team in Senegal when he stepped aboard the Africa Mercy® to volunteer for one week. He returned home, packed his belongings and came back to stay.
Finding a different purpose
Jean Jacques had a successful career as a head electrician in Senegal, but he was looking for something more. Volunteering meant leaving a paid leadership position to start again as an assistant electrician.
One week aboard changed his plans.
From one week to two years
One week was enough to make him stay. Two years helped change where he wanted to go next.
Jean Jacques arrived wondering whether volunteering was right for him. He stayed because he found professional growth, community and a sense of purpose in contributing his skills to something bigger.
“I am proud to be part of an organization which gives free surgeries to people who cannot afford it.”
There is a difference between working for money and working for a purpose.
Could your technical skills take you further?
You don't have to work in an operating room to help make surgery possible.
Electricians, engineers, mechanics and other technical professionals keep the systems behind the hospital working every day.
Your experience could make a difference aboard and become part of where your own career goes next.
