Anouck arrived to run the dining room and became Operations Director
Volunteering is not a pause in a career. For some people it becomes the career.
A hospital ship is a hospital, a hotel, a school and a small town, all in one hull. Someone has to run it.
Starting in hospitality
Anouck came aboard to manage the dining room, feeding a crew of several hundred people from dozens of countries on a schedule dictated by operating lists and night shifts.
What operations covers
Within four years she was Operations Director. The role spans accommodation, catering, housekeeping, supply chain, port logistics and the daily coordination that keeps a residential community and a working hospital functioning in the same space.
Everything that lets a surgeon walk into theatre and find it ready sits somewhere in that list.
Non-clinical routes are real routes
Managers, logisticians, buyers, HR staff, accountants, teachers and IT specialists are all recruited. The experience transfers, and so does the progression: the ship promotes from within, because people who know how it works are the scarcest resource on board.
