Years after her surgery, Charity returned to Mercy Ships in Ghana

She had a tumour removed. She came back to sit with people who are where she once was.

The question a patient story rarely answers is what happened next. Charity's answer arrived years later.

Before the surgery

Charity lived with a tumour that changed how people in her community treated her. Like most patients Mercy Ships meets, she had not been refused treatment. She had simply never been within reach of it.

What happened afterwards

The tumour was removed free of charge aboard a Mercy Ships hospital ship. She went home and got on with her life.

Why she came back

When the Global Mercy returned to Ghana, Charity came to meet patients waiting for their own operations. People facing surgery are frightened, and the reassurance that matters most does not come from a surgeon. It comes from someone who sat in the same chair and is now well.

A patient who returns years later is the clearest evidence there is that the work holds.
