Musu came to a Mercy Ships surgical team in Sierra Leone with scarring that had tightened across her arm and limited her movement. The operation released the contracture so the joint could extend again.

Her scars are still there. Surgery of this kind is not cosmetic, and photographs of it do not look like a transformation.
What she can do now is different: reach, grip, carry, dress herself without help. For daily life in a place where most work is physical, that is the outcome that counts.
