An ordinary condition with an ordinary fix
Mohamed drives a tuk-tuk through Freetown. It is work that requires sitting, lifting and long hours, and a hernia had made all three painful.
In much of the world a hernia repair is routine day surgery. Where there are too few surgeons and no way to pay for one, it is something a person lives around until they can no longer work.
The first surgery of the field service
Mohamed was the first patient operated on when the Global Mercy began its field service in Sierra Leone. The repair was straightforward, and he went back to driving.
