From Hiding to Living Fully Again: Meet Charity

For more than 20 years, Charity lived with a tumour that grew larger than her head, eventually leading her to withdraw from her community. Then came an opportunity she had almost stopped believing was possible. Charity travelled from Ghana to the Africa Mercy® in Guinea, where she received the surgery she needed, free of charge. Today, she is active in her church and community again. And with the Global Mercy™ now in Ghana, Charity hopes her story can give hope to others still waiting for care. One surgery gave Charity more than treatment. It gave her the freedom to step back into life.

One Professional. Many Future Patients. Meet Valerie

For Valerie, impact is about what happens when knowledge moves from one person to another. After years working in the operating room, she became a nurse educator in Ghana, helping other healthcare professionals strengthen their surgical skills through practical learning and education. What Valerie shares with one professional can be used with the next patient, passed to a colleague and eventually taught to someone else. That is how one opportunity to learn can reach far beyond one classroom, one hospital or one field service.

Long after the ship is gone, the training, the impact we have had on the people will still be utilized in bringing hope and healing.

What Continues After the Ship Sails?

Expertise That Can Keep Reaching Patients

A hospital ship will not stay in Ghana forever. The expertise strengthened through the partnership can.

Healthcare professionals can take what they have learned back to their hospitals, use it with future patients and share it with colleagues. Through partnerships with Ghanaian healthcare institutions, opportunities for postgraduate education and practical experience can also become part of a much longer journey.

The current partnership supports Ghana's wider ambitions for safe surgical, obstetric and anaesthesia care, connecting opportunities aboard the Global Mercy™ with priorities within the country's own healthcare system.

The ship can sail. Expertise can keep travelling from person to person.

Help the Impact Continue

Behind every surgery, every healthcare professional trained and every life changed are people who choose to make it possible. Your support can help bring life-changing surgical care to more patients and strengthen healthcare expertise for the future.
